Editorial Policy

At meters.to.inches, we treat measurement conversions as a discipline of engineering and utility. This Editorial Policy defines our commitments to mathematical truth, technical review, and user safety.

Mathematical Rigor & Core Constants

All converters on this platform are driven by standard, internationally recognized constants. We do not use shortened approximations for backend calculations.

  • Meter-to-Inch Constant: We define 1 inch as exactly 25.4 millimeters. Therefore, 1 meter translates to exactly 1 / 0.0254 inches, which is approximately 39.37007874015748 inches.
  • Double-Precision Floats: All internal computing uses IEEE 754 floating-point numbers to limit cumulative arithmetic errors.

Peer Review and Algorithmic Validation

New calculation modules (such as pacing split charts, model train converters, or bike frame sizing indices) undergo validation before deployment. Formulas are cross-checked against standard datasets from:

  • National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Guides
  • ISO/IEC standard dimensions for manufacturing
  • Manual verification using calibrated real-world measuring implements

Transparency in Rounding & Approximations

Measurements on the shop floor require fractions, whereas structural designs use decimal meters. To support both:

  • We display exact calculations in full precision cards so users can select their required bounds.
  • We state formatting rules (e.g. snapping to the nearest 1/64" or 1/16") so users understand the delta offset.
  • We clearly demarcate "Nominal vs. Actual" values (for lumber, PVC conduit, textiles) to match real-world building materials.

Correction Submissions
